About Julia

Brazilian-born architect who blends soul, story, and cutting-edge technology to design spaces that truly come to life—crafted with depth, clarity, and purpose.

Julia Correia’s architectural journey began 16 years ago, sparked by a fascination with how the spaces we inhabit shape our emotions, rhythms of daily life, and sense of belonging. She earned her architecture degree ten years ago and became a licensed architect in Brazil shortly after. Since then, she has built a proven portfolio across residential, commercial, and hospitality projects.

Now based in Carmel, California, Julia is on the path to architectural licensure in the U.S. She collaborates with Thomas Hood Architecture on projects across the Central Coast, contributing both design sensibility and technical expertise to new constructions, renovations, and historic restorations. Her work reflects a deep respect for place—grounded in harmony, intention, and the unique needs of each client.

Julia’s approach weaves together bioclimatic and biophilic principles, natural materials, and a reverence for both innovation and preservation. Her work demonstrates how technology can be used not to overwrite the past, but to protect and elevate it. With tools like LiDAR scanning and BIM modeling, she brings precision and clarity to historic restoration—capturing the soul of existing structures while preparing them for future resilience.

Whether working on a contemporary home or a century-old building,
Julia designs spaces that feel alive, functional, and time-defying.

An early adopter of architectural technology, she integrates immersive tools like realistic renderings and 3D modeling throughout the design journey. These tools allow clients to clearly visualize their space before it’s built—helping them make decisions with confidence, avoid costly revisions, and feel more connected to the final result. For Julia, technology is not a replacement for intuition—but a bridge between vision and reality.

She also serves as a Director of the AIA Monterey Bay chapter and sits on its Awards Commission, and is a member of the Carmel Heritage Society House Tour Commission. Her involvement in these organizations reflects her collaborative spirit, deep engagement with the local community, and dedication to meaningful architectural dialogue in the region.

Beyond architecture, Julia brings a tactile sensibility to her work, informed by her background as a textile designer. While in Brazil, she founded a crochet décor atelier where she created a line of functional art pieces—an experience that continues to influence her architectural work through an emphasis on materiality, texture, and the slow beauty of intentional, thoughtful craftsmanship.
